GPS Tracking Service Plans... which one is best for your needs?

GPS Tracking has been long used by Military and Municipalities alike to aid in tracking troops, equipment, suspected criminals and more. As technology has advanced with the help of cell-phone service providers; these devices, once used primarily by Military and Police, are now being used by consumers and businesses.

GPS Tracking is more affordable today than it's ever been. The technology has evolved from the traditional system requiring expensive software to the latest Web-based mapping systems offering GPS tracking with affordable monthly service plans. These plans can cost from $19.95 to as much as $79.95 per month. There are two types of devices to consider. One is a “Ping” device and the other is an “Unlimited-use”.

What's the difference between a Ping and an Unlimited-use device? Good question. You'll need to know, to help you decide, which one is best for your individual needs. A Ping device charges the user for each individual “locate” or “ping” requested by the user. The cost for monthly service ranges from $19.95 and higher. Some even costing as much as $79.95 for unlimited pings.

An Unlimited-use device charges the user a monthly fee for just what it states – Unlimited tracking. These devices have “real-time” tracking, ranging from -5 second updates to 2 minute updates, that continuously track the device 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The cost for these service plans typically range from $29.95 to $49.95 per month.

Deciding which one is right for you is the BIG question. When you lay all the cards on the table, it looks like unlimited-use is the way to go. If you're using a GPS tracking device to track a loved one, your child or vehicle; you'll probably like the benefits of an “unlimited-use” device. Bang for your buck, it certainly seems like the way to go.

There's lots of companies out there that offer GPS Tracking with unlimited-use devices. Some offer 1 or 2 minute updates while others offer -5 or -10 second updates. Which one is right for you? Ahhh, yet another question to consider. Ironically these services can be around the same price. Why pay $49.95 a month for 1 minute updates if you can get -10 second updates for only $29.95? Every decision should be this simple.

Do these Service Plans require a Long Term Contract? Another good question. Some providers do and some do not. Taking the time to compare the service plans offered with GPS devices is just as important as taking the time to compare the devices themselves. Most consumers and businesses like the flexibility of No Long Term Contracts over any contract at all. Find the device, and service plan, that fits your budget and doesn't require a long term commitment. You'll be glad you did.
